Born in Moscow, Dimitri moved as a teenager to Colorado where his father joined the faculty at the Colorado School of Mines. This family academic background had a significant impact on his career. Dr. Kaufman graduated with distinction from the University of Colorado where he received his Bachelor of Arts, and attended Harvard Medical School. He then completed his Internship and Residency in Internal Medicine at Harvard’s Beth Israel Hospital, and returned to Colorado for his Fellowship training in Cardiology at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. Dr. Kaufman then completed his training with a Fellowship in Interventional Cardiology at Georgetown University, then again returned to Colorado where he joined the faculty at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center and was named Director of the Intensive Care Unit and eventually Acting Director of Cardiac Interventions. In 1997, Dr. Kaufman joined South Denver Cardiology Associates where he directs the Interventional Group.

Dr. Kaufman has received his Board Certification in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Diseases, as well as numerous specialty Interventional Cardiology Certifications, and has been inducted in the Medical Honor Society, Alpha Omega Alpha. He is married with four children.
