PROCEDURES : Ambulatory Monitoring

Holter Monitor:

Your doctor may want to review your heart rate and rhythm for 24 hours. A Holter monitor is an ambulatory cassette recorder which will record your heart rhythm for up to 24 hours. Electrodes will be placed on your chest. The monitor can be worn over your shoulder. A diary will be given to you for you to record any special events ie exercise, palpitations, dizziness, or even syncope. After you return the device, the tape will be analyzed and given to the doctor to review. It may take up to a few days for you to get your test results.

Event Monitor:

You may have a rhythm which does not occur daily. This device records when activated and records a few minutes at a time. When you notice the rhythm that you are concerned about, you can activate the device. Once recorded, you will be asked to transmit the rhythm over the phone when you are able to the technician in our office. The device can be worn for several days.

Implantable Loop Recorder:

If your rhythm is elusive, and not captured with the event monitor, then a loop recorder may be recommended. This device is implanted under your skin. It will record rhythms for several months. Once the information that is needed is required, then the device can be explanted.

Ambulatory Blood Pressure:

Your doctor may want to evaluate your blood pressure throughout the day. The device is worn on the arm. It will automatically check your blood pressure throughout the day and keep a log of it. Once returned, the data will be analyzed and given to the doctor for review. It may take a few days for you to get the results of the test.
