PROCEDURES : Tilt Table Testing

Tilt table testing is performed to determine the causes of syncope (fainting spells). You will be asked not to eat or drink anything on the day of the study. An intravenous line will be placed in your arm. Electrodes will be placed on your chest, and a blood pressure cuff on your arm to watch your heart’s rhythm and blood pressure. You will be placed on a table that will stand you up 70 degrees (feet to the ground) for up to 60 minutes. Medications are sometimes given during the test. If you are susceptible to an abnormal reflex that lowers your blood pressure, and slows down your heart rate, you may pass out reproducing your fainting spells. With this information, your doctor can decide in your treatment, if any.
