Sri Sundaram, M.D.

Electrophysiologist

Dr. Sri Sundaram came to the South Denver Heart Center team from Kentucky. He received his bachelor of arts in Art History and Economics from Washington University in 1992. He then attended the University of Kentucky, where he received his medical degree.

While in medical school, he was awarded a full scholarship and received magna cum laude designation at graduation. He then received postgraduate training at Northwestern University in Internal Medicine, Cardiology, and Cardiac Electrophysiology.

Dr. Sundaram is “triple-board certified,”  in Cardiology, Cardiac Electrophysiology, and Nuclear Cardiology. Dr. Sundaram was recognized with the Heart Rhythm Society’s 2005 Clinical Young Investigator of the Year, a national honor presented to only one Electrophysiologist per year. In the fall of 2006, this highly recruited physician chose to join South Denver Cardiology Associates. In 2010 Dr. Sundaram was elected as Fellow by the Heart Rhythm Society, the 5th in the state of Colorado.  Dr. Sundaram was among the elite to be awarded by 5280 magazines “Top Doc” in Colorado for 2012, 2013, 2016, 2019, in the area of Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology. He was also Porter Hospital’s Physician of the Year in 2018. Dr. Sundaram’s primary interest is the treatment of Atrial Fibrillation, including the newest ablation technology. In the fall of 2016, Dr. Sundaram performed the 1st atrial fibrillation ablation without radiation in the state of Colorado and teaches other cardiologists how to perform this procedure around the world.  He has personally performed over 2500 atrial fibrillation ablations.  Dr. Sundaram currently serves as the chair of Cardiac Electrophysiology for Centura health care and is national Co-Chair of Cardiac Electrophysiology for Common Spirit Health, a 140 hospital system that is the largest non-profit hospital system in the country. Also, he authors several scientific papers every year.

Dr. Sundaram is joined in Denver by his wife, son, and daughter. He was named Little League Coach of the Year in 1994 and has competed in two marathons. He also leads an annual medical mission to help the sick and needy in 3rd world countries. He was awarded the Heart Rhythm Society’s Humanitarian of the Year award in 2020 for his medical mission work.
